Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (IATA: MSP, ICAO: KMSP, FAA LID: MSP) is the busiest airport in the Upper Midwest. It is within 16 kilometers of both downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul.

A joint civil-military airport, MSP is home to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport Joint Air Reserve Station, supporting both Air Force Reserve Command and Air National Guard flight operations.

As the hub for Delta Air Lines, the airport generates approximately $16 billion a year for the economy of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is the only major airport in the United States to have two terminals located in entirely separate locations.

Terminal 1 is located at 4300 Glumack Drive, St. Paul, while Terminal 2 is at 7150 Humphrey Drive, Minneapolis. Both terminals are accessible via train and shuttle buses between each other.

The airport is operated by the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which also handles the operation of six smaller airports in the region.

Its history dates back as far as 1919 when several local groups came together to take control of the former bankrupt Twin City Speedway race track.

Passenger services began at the facility in 1929.

Expansions were carried out in the 1950s, with the construction of Terminal 1 of the building in 1958. Terminal 2 was first built in 1986 and rebuilt in 2001 for charter and low-cost airlines.

Today, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport has two terminals with 131 gates.

Terminal 1 contains 117 gates across seven concourses, A–G. while Terminal 2 has 14 gates across one concourse, H.

Its busiest domestic routes in 2020 include Denver, Colorado, Phoenix–Sky Harbor, Arizona, Atlanta, Georgia, Orlando, Florida, Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago–O'Hare, Illinois, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Los Angeles, California, Seattle/Tacoma, Washington, and Fort Myers, Florida.

In the same years, its top international destinations were Cancún, Mexico, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Canada, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Montego Bay, Jamaica, Calgary, Canada, José del Cabo, Mexico, Toronto–Pearson, Canada, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Vancouver, Canada.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport has four asphalt runways and covers an area of 2,930 acres with annual passenger traffic of nearly 15 million in 2020. It sits 256 meters above sea level at 44°52′55″N and 093°13′18″W.

City bus service (Route 54) picks up and drops off is located in the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 at Terminal 1.

A one-way bus fare from the airport to downtown Minneapolis is $2.00.

The MSP maintains pet and service animal relief areas at both terminals.

Terminal 1: Pre-security, there are pet relief areas located outside both Door 1 and Door 4 on the Baggage Claim Level. There is also a new pet relief area outside of the Silver Parking Ramp.

Through security at Terminal 1, there are three pet relief areas available: located near the entrance to Concourse E in the Airport Mall, by Gate F6, and on the C/G Connector Bridge.

Terminal 2: Travelers can use the grassy area just outside of Door 8 on Level 1 near baggage claim or the indoor pet relief area near Gate H11.

Passengers traveling with a service animal can request an escort from their airline or Travelers Assistance to the pet relief area.

Please note that animals are not permitted in the terminals at the airport unless they are in proper pet carriers or being used to assist disabled individuals.

Airline policies regarding pets vary widely and it is highly recommended that you contact the airline before making a reservation.

Located on the secure side of Terminal 1 at the entrance to Concourses A and B, the Armed Forces Service Center welcomes traveling members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Reservists, National Guard, Medal of Honor recipients, Purple Heart recipients, and their dependents.

The center also serves active-duty Department of Defense employees, U.S. Public Health Service personnel, and currently, members of allied nations in a travel status.
